Three pillars for safe wastewater disposal
The „three-pillar model of sustainable development“ states that sustainable development can only be achieved through the simultaneous and equal implementation of environmental, economical and social goals. Sustainable economic development therefore means that we must ensure that the following generations are left with an intact ecological, social and economical structure.
Such a structure also includes the underground municipal infrastructures, such as water supply and sewage disposal networks. The aspect of the lifespan or service life, for example of sewage systems, is thus the decisive parameter for making the right business decisions; the aspects of reliability and tightness are the decisive parameters for making the right environmental decisions. All these aspects have an impact on social issues: Infrastructure systems must not only last for the moment or the term of office, but must also be built cost-effectively and consistently for future generations.
Last but not least, the cost-effective design of wastewater disposal must be a special duty of cities and municipalities, especially in view of their limited budgets – an economic as well as a social aspect.
